Plot Overview
Set seven years after the events of the first film, Chhorii 2 follows Sakshi, who now lives in isolation with her daughter, Ishani. Ishani suffers from a rare condition that makes sunlight fatal for her. Their peaceful existence is disrupted when Ishani mysteriously disappears, forcing Sakshi to return to the village she once fled.
As she searches for her daughter, Sakshi is drawn back into a world of ancient rituals and malevolent forces, including a deity that the villagers secretly worship. The terrifying journey leads her face-to-face with Daasi Maa, a shape-shifting priestess determined to complete a sacrificial ritual. Sakshi must confront both supernatural horrors and deeply rooted social evils to save her child.
Cast Performances
Nushrratt Bharuccha delivers a powerful performance, portraying Sakshi’s vulnerability and courage with authenticity. Her emotional depth keeps the audience emotionally invested throughout the film.
Soha Ali Khan surprises audiences with her portrayal of Daasi Maa, embodying the role with chilling precision and intensity. Her character is both mystical and terrifying, making her one of the standout elements of the film. Gashmeer Mahajani, playing Inspector Samar, provides a grounded and reliable presence that balances the supernatural chaos unfolding on screen.
Direction and Cinematography
Vishal Furia’s direction shines in his ability to blend folk horror with modern themes. The rural landscape and eerie atmosphere are used to maximum effect, creating a sense of claustrophobia and unease.
The sugarcane fields, a signature element from the first movie, return to intensify the dread. Anshul Chobey’s cinematography is beautifully haunting, making each frame visually engaging. The deliberate pacing builds suspense gradually, leading to a visually striking and emotionally heavy climax.
Critical Reception
Chhorii 2 has received mixed reviews from critics. Some outlets appreciated its social message and eerie ambiance, while others criticized it for lacking strong scares and having a predictable climax.

- Rediff gave it 1.5/5, citing it as underwhelming.
- India Today and Firstpost both offered 2.5/5, noting the film’s intention but critiquing its execution.

Audience reactions are also divided. While some viewers appreciate the film’s attempt to merge horror with social commentary, others feel it lacks the fear factor they were expecting.
Social media has highlighted Soha Ali Khan’s transformation and Nushrratt’s emotional performance as major positives. However, some fans were disappointed with the film’s slow pacing and anticlimactic ending.
Conclusion
Chhorii 2 continues its predecessor’s mission to explore social evils through the lens of psychological horror. It delivers on atmosphere, performance, and visual storytelling, though it stumbles in areas like pacing and climax.
Still, for those who enjoy horror with depth and meaning, Chhorii 2 provides a thought-provoking and unsettling cinematic experience.
